Within the SMARTWELD project (EU RFCS-2022, GA No. 101112414), experimental activities are advancing the development of an intelligent online monitoring system for hybrid welding.

Recent work has focused on generating representative datasets through welding trials on S355 steel using both Laser Beam Welding and Laser-Hybrid Welding processes.

The activities included:

  • Experimental welding trials under controlled conditions.
  • Introduction of representative weld imperfections to support system development.
  • Generation of high-quality datasets for the development and validation of intelligent quality assessment algorithms.

These activities are a key step towards reliable, real-time weld quality monitoring and intelligent decision-making for advanced hybrid welding processes.
