Within the SMARTWELD project (EU RFCS-2022, GA No. 101112414), collaboration between project partners continues to drive the development and integration of advanced hybrid welding technologies.
Recent joint achievements by SUT and L-IS include:
- Preparation of API 5L X100 Plasma Hybrid Welding (PHW)+ Metal Active Gas welding (MAG) pipeline butt joints for experimental validation.
- Completion of benchmark and smart online monitoring activities.
- Macrostructural characterization of 26 mm-thick PHW+MAG butt joints.
The accompanying images showcase the developed 26 mm-thick API 5L X100 PHW+MAG butt joints. The macrostructural characterization confirms the successful integration of both welding processes, supporting the next stages of validation within the SMARTWELD project. Together, these achievements strengthen the integration of SMARTWELD key technologies and bring the project closer to delivering reliable hybrid welding solutions for industrial pipeline applications.
