Within the SMARTWELD project (EU RFCS-2022, GA No. 101112414), WP5 – Development of a Predictive Tool at TRL4, is progressing through the collaborative efforts of the project partners.
As part of Task 5.3 – Algorithm Development, RINA Consulting – CSM S.p.A. has developed the CSMWeld predictive model for hybrid laser-MAG welding, supporting the prediction of weld microstructure and hardness from material characteristics and welding process parameters.
Recent achievements include:
- Implementation of the CSMWeld predictive model for hybrid laser-MAG welding.
- Prediction of HAZ hardness distributions for X80 and X100 steel grades.
- Good agreement between predicted results and experimental hardness measurements, accurately capturing HAZ extent and hardness gradients.
The figures illustrate the CSMWeld model successfully validating against experimental measurements, demonstrating its potential as a valuable tool for optimizing welding procedures and supporting the development of reliable hybrid welding technologies.
