From new robotised/automated hybrid welding processes to digital-twin-assisted quality monitoring and a predictive tool, SMARTWELD is poised to redefine efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and set new standards in steel manufacturing.
Objectives
Develop and validate state-of-the-art welding technologies. Introduce digital-twin-assisted online quality monitoring systems. Attain Technology Readiness Level 5 within the project timeframe. Reach the market at TRL9 within 5 years post-project.
Scope and Impact
SMARTWELD addresses critical RFCS research objectives, aligns with the European Green Deal, and strives for industrial evolution. By focusing on a specific business case (e.g., [U]HSS pipes) and expanding results to hydrogen steels and heavy carpentry steels, we aim to pioneer a shift towards a greener, competitive, and carbon-neutral economy.
